West Grand in Grand Rapids, Michigan has been under the care of the West Grand Neighborhood Organization. It is a non-profit organization and the second-largest organization in Grand Rapids. The organization’s goal is to create programs that will enable the residents and business owners to coexist with one another in an environment that is filled with a healthy and vital neighborhood for everyone to enjoy.
Neighborhoods are strategically structured to maintain rental properties and owned properties. Individuals are offered their tools to maintain the neighborhood just as they want it to be. The organization makes sure that the Senior residents are offered stability, homeowners with their vested interest, as well as rental properties are offered with opportunities and investments. Businessowners offer to trade financial support for the betterment of the neighborhood. Every healthy neighborhood must practice collectivity to attain each of the elements to live a sustainable and secure life.
Programs
West Grand of Grand Rapids, Michigan prioritizes public safety. Groups are formed to give instructions on how to maintain the safety of the neighborhood against criminal activities and they are also provided with tools and combat skills to avoid also being victimized. The organization is partnering with the Grand Rapids Police Department is offering its proactive crime-prevention techniques.
Block Clubs
This program has been established in accordance with the web of neighborhood eyes and ears which has been designed in order to reduce the possibilities of criminal activity within residential areas. Business Watch
Watch Captains are designated with a planned structure very similar to Neighborhood Watch Program but monitoring businesses under the auspices. Community Organizing
The neighborhood has been well galvanized through comprehensive instructions from the programs and tools provided for community improvements, through a friendly-neighborhood approach to community activism. The organization works to help instruct residents and businesses when it comes to communicating with the city departments like Housing, Zoning, Planning, Sanitation and Streets, and of course the Judicial System.
West Grand Youth Leaders
The organization is still in search of youth volunteers between 5th and 12th grades to participate in volunteering pursuits in their community through helping in administering programs at West Grand Neighborhood Organization.
Dumpster Day
WGNO (funded by the city of Grand Rapids, MI) spearheads the program that enables residents were to bring a wide array of disposables to line up at Richmond Park to dispose of them properly.
